How does Long Pulse Yag laser work?
The Long Pulse YAG laser uses a longer wavelength of light to penetrate deeper into the skin, targeting vascular structures like veins or rosacea, as well as pigmentation. The laser selectively heats and destroys the affected cells without harming the surrounding tissue. Additionally, it is effective in permanently reducing unwanted hair growth.
What to Expect During a Long Pulse Yag Treatment
Before the treatment, we provide a thorough consultation to understand the patient’s concerns and expectations. The treatment is started, by applying topical anesthesia to numb the area.
During the Treatment: You may feel a mild snapping or heating sensation on the skin.
Post-Treatment: Mild redness and swelling are common but usually fade within a few hours to days. An ointment, such as aquaphor is applied to the treated area, to prevent scabs from forming. Downtime is minimal, typically lasting for about 5 days for the average client.
Temporary pigmentation changes may occur, but these typically resolve on their own.
Results
- Immediate Results: You may notice a reduction in redness or visible veins right after treatment, with continued improvement over the next few weeks.
- Long-Term Results: Spider veins, cherry angiomas, and other vascular lesions diminish significantly or disappear as targeted blood vessels collapse and are naturally reabsorbed by the body. Results typically appear over several weeks.
Side Effects/ Complications
- Redness and Swelling: Mild redness and swelling are common and typically subside within hours or a few days.
- Slight Discomfort: Some clients experience mild discomfort during the treatment, similar to a rubber band snap against the skin.
- Blistering or Scabbing: In rare cases, small blisters or scabs may form, but these typically heal within a few days.
- Hyperpigmentation or Hypopigmentation: Temporary skin discoloration may occur, but it generally resolves within a few weeks. Additionally, temporary pigmentation changes are more likely in patients with darker skin tones, so some providers may adjust settings accordingly. Overall, safe for most skin types, though darker skin tones require additional care to minimize the risk of pigmentation changes.
