Plasma is the liquid portion of blood. It consists mainly of water and proteins. It provides a medium for red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets to circulate through the body.

Platelets, also called thrombocytes, are subcellular entities that promote blood clots and other necessary functions of healing. Platelet-rich plasma or Platelet-rich fibrin therapy takes advantage of the body's natural ability to heal itself.

How Do PRP/PRF Work?

Platelet Rich-Plasma (PRP) & Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) are produced by isolating your own regenerative cells and activated platelets. The product is used for new tissue formation and healing resulting in a more rejuvenated look and function. When PRP or PRF is injected, the activated platelets start the healing and rejuvenation process. The boost of collagen and elastin gives the skin a firmer and tighter appearance. PRF also stimulates stem cells to activate hair growth, tissue appearance, and function.

PRF is an improvement of PRP as it does not require the use of any additive or anti-coagulant to unlock the body’s natural healing properties. It uses the latest technologies to maximize the natural body response without damaging its environment.

What to Expect During Treatment

For both PRP and PRF there are 3 main steps used to prepare the Vivigold Concentration.

  1. Blood Draw - A small sample of your blood is collected in the test tube containing ACD solution for PRP or an EZPRF tube for PRF
  2. Centrifugation - The EZPRF tubes or PRP tubes are then spun in order to separate your red blood cells from everything else. The centrifugal force generated pushes the heavier red blood cells to the bottom of the tube.
  3. Collect Concentrate – Once the centrifugation is complete: For PRP, the bottom 3rd of the top layer is collected.  This layer consists of the highest concentration of platelets. For PRF, the top layer of the tube’s content is collected.  This layer (approx. 10% of tube is composed of your own platelets and white blood cells: “The Ultimate Concentration”.
A very small (32-33” gauge) needle is used to inject the PRP/PRF into the treatment area. The majority of clients experience very minimal discomfort.

Results

Results may vary based on the collection technique, platelet activation and amount of platelets in the sample. A concentrate, richer in platelets and longer-lasting growth factors will produce best results. WHOW Aesthetics uses the most advance techniques in collection and activation of the platelets to create optimal results.

Clients may start to see results within 2-6 weeks as it takes time for new collagen to synthesize. Typically, clients would schedule 3-5 treatments about 4 -6 weeks apart. Most clients will notice improvements in hair growth, skin tone, function or elasticity within this period.

PRP/PRF is frequently combined with several different procedures including CO2 laser, microneedling, PDO Threads, radiofrequency microneedling to improve results.

Side Effects/Complications

Since PRP/PRF uses the client’s own tissue, there are little to no side effects.  Clients may experience mild discomfort during treatment
Post treatment discomfort, swelling, redness, and bruising may occur. This is transient and typically lasts for about 3 – 5 days.
