Dermal fillers have become one of the most requested minimally invasive treatment options to re-volumize the aging face.

As we age, we lose volume from our muscles, bone, skin, and subcutaneous area giving the appearance of hollowing defects, lines, and wrinkles. Dermal fillers work to restore volume and fullness and give the appearance of a more youthful, rejuvenated look.

Currently, the FDA has approved various types of

1. Hyaluronic Acids

2. Biostimulatory products like calcium hydroxylapatite

3. Poly-L-lactic acid

4. Polymethylmethacrylate, a permanent filler

Dermal fillers can be used in combination with several different treatments. For example, it can be used with neurotoxin treatments to achieve a more balanced rejuvenated look.

What to Expect During Treatment

Before the treatment, we provide a thorough consultation. During this consultation, we evaluate the patient’s concerns, expectations and select the most suitable product for optimal results. A very small fine needle is used to inject the dermal filler into the treatment area. Local anesthesia or advanced techniques like nerve blocks are performed to minimize bruising and promote optimal patient comfort. PRO-NOX, is also available for clients needing another layer of comfort.

The treatment time may vary based on the amount of filler needed. On average, treatments take about 20 - 30 minutes. Clients can return to regular activities once the procedure is completed. There is no downtime.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

For Hyaluronic Acid-based fillers like Restylane, it fills the defect, draws water to it, and promotes collagen deposition and volumization.

When a Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) based filler like Radiesse is injected, it fills in the volume of the area. As time goes on it stimulates the naturally-occurring collagen allowing your skin to produce more of its own filler. The hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon it contains, help create a structure that mimics connective tissue. Eventually, the CaHA absorbs back into the body, leaving the collagen in its place.

When a Poly-L-Lactic Acid-base filler, like Sculptra, is injected into the foundational layers of aging skin, the body begins to produce higher amounts of collagen.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and is responsible for keeping your skin smooth and volumized.

Results

Results may vary based on the product type and how quickly the body metabolizes the product. Volumized, younger-looking skin in the treatment area is usually noticeable immediately after treatment. Treatments may last between six months to 2 years based on the product choice.

Side Effects/Complications

Side Effects/Complications are uncommon but the following can occur.
