How does Erbium Yag laser work?
Erbium YAG laser delivers short pulses of high-energy light into the skin. It penetrates deep into the skin, targeting both the epidermis and dermis. The energy is absorbed by water molecules in the skin, causing vaporization of the targeted tissue. This treatment primarily addresses superficial to medium skin depths, making it less aggressive than CO2 lasers. While treating issues in the epidermis and upper dermis, it doesn’t penetrate as deeply as other laser types. The laser vaporizes damaged skin cells and stimulates the body's natural healing response, resulting in smoother, more even skin. This process stimulates collagen production and promotes skin rejuvenation. The Erbium Yag can be customized for various concerns like pigmentation and texture irregularities. The laser can be adjusted to different depths and intensities, allowing precise treatment tailored to each client's needs. This laser is also suitable for darker skin tones with the use of the ethnic tip.
What to Expect During Erbium Yag Treatment
Before the treatment, we provide a thorough consultation to understand the patient’s concerns and expectations. The treatment is started, by applying topical anesthesia to numb the area.
Once numb and comfortable, a combination of treatment settings specifically tailored to your skin type and degree of rejuvenation will be used. Treatment times vary but on average, expect between 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the technique used and the size of the area.
After treatment, most clients experience redness and mild swelling. A post-treatment ointment is applied to the treated area, to prevent scabs from forming. Downtime is minimal, typically lasting about 5 days for the average client.
Benefits
- Smoothens Skin Texture: Improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.
- Reduces Pigmentation: Targets sunspots, age spots, and other forms of pigmentation.
- Promotes Collagen Production: Stimulates collagen for firmer, rejuvenated skin.
- Minimal Downtime: Faster recovery compared to other resurfacing lasers, making it suitable for those with busy schedules.
Results
- Immediate Results: Some improvement in skin texture and tone can be seen immediately after the treatment, but optimal results usually appear within 3 - 6 months as collagen builds.
- Long-Term Results: Over the course of 2-4 treatments, the skin’s texture, tone, and elasticity will improve, with long-lasting results.
- Maintenance: Periodic maintenance sessions may be recommended to maintain the results.
Side Effects/ Complications
Post treatment discomfort, swelling, redness, and bruising may occur. This is transient and typically last for about 3 – 5 days.
- Redness: Mild to moderate redness in the treated area is common and usually subsides within a few hours to days.
- Swelling: Some swelling may occur, particularly around the treated areas, which typically resolves within 1-2 days.
- Peeling: Light peeling or flaking may occur as the skin heals, but it’s usually mild and temporary.
- Dryness: Treated areas may feel dry and tight during the healing process.
For darker skin types we use n ethnic tip which reduces the risks of pigmentation disturbances.
In rare cases, clients may experience an allergic reaction. Occasional numbness of the forehead lasting up to 2-3 weeks may occur.
